Recognize your patterns. Make more conscious choices.

You are more than your Sun sign

Your birth chart offers a starting point to understand your strengths, needs, and recurring patterns. Explore how that awareness can help you make everyday choices that feel more true to you.

Your birth chart as a guide to understanding yourself

I’m a Capricorn with a butter dish design that’s been waiting for months. Here’s what my chart says about that.

I have a design for a slab-built ceramic butter dish. The pattern is drawn. I plan to cut it on the local library's shared laser cutter, then roll the texture right into the clay. I know exactly how I want it to look.

I just haven’t had time to make it.

Meanwhile, I’ve said yes to plenty of other things. Yes, I can take that on. Yes, I can have it done by Friday. Yes, of course I’ll help. The butter dish sits on my screen, patient and unbuttered.

I’d like to say I spotted my habit right away. I didn’t. I noticed it the way you notice a drawer that won’t close: after a lot of pushing.

Knowing yourself isn’t the same as choosing differently

You can understand yourself quite well and still run on autopilot. You take on one more responsibility. You set the creative thing aside “for now.” You keep doing something because you’ve always done it that way.

For ten years, astrology has been what makes me pause. It doesn’t tell me what to do. It gives me words for what I’m already doing, which turns out to be most of the battle.

Your Sun sign is the trailer, not the movie

Most of us know our Sun sign, and it’s a fine place to start. It’s your core identity and how you shine. But the Sun is only one character in the story.

Your Moon is what you need to feel emotionally okay: what settles you and feels like home. Your Rising sign is how you approach the world and what people notice first. Together, the Sun, Moon, and Rising are your “big three,” and that’s where the story gets personal.

I come at charts as a designer, so I care less about any single placement than how the pieces work together (or argue with each other). You might need stability and freedom. You might love caring for people and need a lot of time alone. A good chart reading doesn’t pick a winner. It helps you make room for both.

Exhibit A: my chart

My Sun is in Capricorn, which explains a great deal. I work hard, organize complicated ideas, and turn a vision into something real. That built my career in design. It’s also why I take on too much and find it strangely hard to relax. Capricorn is not known for putting its feet up.

My Gemini rising has other plans. Gemini wants to follow the unexpected interest, try the new thing, and read the book that has nothing to do with the deadline. It does not care about my to-do list.

Then there’s my Moon in Sagittarius in the 6th house, the house of daily routines, work, and being useful. That helps explain the habit. Part of me feels most at ease when I’m helpful and everything is under control. But Sagittarius needs freedom, perspective, and room to wander toward whatever feels meaningful. It does not want a perfectly organized Tuesday.

Three voices, one calendar. Capricorn wants to build. Gemini wants to explore. My Moon wants me to be useful and free. So I ask myself: Am I making room for exploration and freedom, or just filling my calendar with responsibilities?

Some days the honest answer is the second one.

Giving all of me something to do

This is where clay comes in. My favorite way to work is slab building. I think an idea through in two dimensions, then watch it take form in three. A flat sketch becomes a dish you can hold.

That’s my Capricorn: a plan, a process, something real at the end. But the clay keeps my Gemini and my Moon busy, too. I might have a glaze in mind, then watch it break and shift color over the texture of a mug in a way I never predicted. I can plan the piece, but I don’t get to control the surprise. That’s the part I love.

Don’t take my word for it (or the chart’s)

An interpretation is a starting point, not a verdict. Ask yourself: Where do I see this in my life? When does it fit, and when doesn’t it?

I recognize the Capricorn responsibility thing, but I still get to decide which responsibilities are mine. Having a strength doesn’t mean I have to use it everywhere. If a description doesn’t match your experience, trust your experience.

One small choice

Self-understanding only matters if it changes something on an ordinary Tuesday. That might mean pausing before you say yes, protecting an hour for a creative project, or leaving space to explore something unfamiliar. For me, it might mean finally cutting that butter dish pattern.

That’s what I’m building into my Stars & Self workshops: learn the basics, reflect on your chart, and leave with one practical next step. No grand transformation required.

Your turn

Where am I making choices out of habit, and what would feel more true to me now? Pick one situation. Notice what you need. Then try one small change.
